From the cabin to the engine room: ROMV ensures that the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems on board work together reliably.
Energy-efficiently controlled, securely monitored, implemented in accordance with industry standards.
From the cabin to the bridge and on to the engine room: on board a ship, a wide variety of areas must be provided with the right temperature, fresh air and air quality. All whilst meeting high standards of energy efficiency and safety. ROMV designs, controls and automates HVAC systems for ships to ensure that heating, ventilation and air conditioning work together reliably.
HVAC stands for Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning. On board, this encompasses all systems for temperature control and ventilation in living, working and operational areas, ranging from cabin air conditioning and bridge ventilation to engine room ventilation. To ensure these systems operate safely and energy-efficiently, they are monitored, controlled and regulated using measurement and control technology and integrated into the ship’s central automation system.
We support your HVAC project from system design right through to the final handover of the system.
We draw up the automation concept for your HVAC systems, tailored to the type of vessel, the use of the spaces and the requirements of the relevant classification society.
We design and install the necessary measurement and control technology. This ranges from temperature and humidity sensors, through damper actuators, to frequency converters for fans and pumps in the cooling and heating circuits.
The HVAC systems are fully integrated into the ship’s overall automation system and the alarm and monitoring system, enabling temperature and ventilation parameters to be monitored and controlled centrally.
Following installation, we commission the system, check the control loops and setpoints, and assist with the acceptance inspection carried out by the relevant classification society. We then support the crew during operation and provide maintenance services.
As a specialist firm in marine automation, ROMV HVAC does not view HVAC as an isolated technology, but as part of an integrated automation system – from sensor technology in individual rooms to centralised monitoring on the bridge. We understand the specific requirements on board and implement our systems accordingly: reliably, energy-efficiently and in compliance with classification society standards. In doing so, we rely on state-of-the-art and innovative technologies.
✓ A reliable indoor climate in cabins, work areas and technical rooms
✓ Energy savings through demand-based rather than continuous system control
✓ Centralised monitoring via the vessel’s automation system
✓ Systems certified by classification societies in accordance with the specifications of recognised classification societies
✓ Safe operation of critical areas such as the engine room and bridge, thanks to reliable ventilation
✓ A single point of contact from the planning stage right through to final acceptance
Our HVAC systems are designed and installed in accordance with internationally recognised standards, including the IMO’s SOLAS regulations, the rules and regulations of recognised classification societies such as DNV, and ISO 7547 for the air conditioning of living and working spaces on board. In this way, we ensure that your system can be operated in a class-compliant, safe and properly documented manner.

HVAC is the English term (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning) for what is known in German as HLK (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning). In international shipping, the term HVAC has become established.
Sensors and actuators in the HVAC system are connected to the higher-level alarm and monitoring system via appropriate interfaces (e.g. Modbus, CAN, LON bus), enabling them to be controlled centrally.
Yes, we inspect existing systems and upgrade or modernise the control systems where necessary, for example whilst the vessel is in dry dock or as part of a fleet modernisation programme. We then provide ongoing support for the vessel’s operations and assist with maintenance services or remote access.
